Amber Listserv / Fw: any information on this?

A couple of years ago, I was in the Dominican Republic at a restaurant in La Cumbre. The owner had lived there all his life and had been collecting amber in the area for at least 20 years. He had one piece of black amber rough that he sold me. I'm nearly positive that it is amber because I cut some matrix out of it and it also had a couple of small areas of honey color in it.

  I have been buying mexican amber for 16 years and I have found one piece of truely black amber. I have polished several pieces that were black for some percentage of the views, but all black that is difficult to obtain. I have seen a lot of jet which is closely associated with amber deposits.the one black piece is on my web site www.amberbug.com  glen
