Amber Listserv / Black amber

A couple of years ago, I was in the Dominican Republic at a little restaurant in La Cumbre. The owner had lived there all his life and had been collecting amber in the area for at least 20 years. He had one piece of black amber rough that he sold me. I'm nearly positive that it is amber because when holding it up to the light it has a very small area of honey color that shows through. The rest is opaque, very black and takes an excellent polish in the same way I usually polish amber. I belieive jet is a harder material and would take a different treatment.
