Subject: black amber

Hi Guys,
I have thought about black amber before and have found several pieces in the Aust. amber.
The colour is so dense there is no possible way light could penetrate it, even the smaller pieces.

I have tried sanding it the amber comes up very shiny.
I noticed the smell of the black amber is much more 'coaly' and harder, makes me wonder if the pieces have a higher carbon content , and how this could be tested?
Also most of the black amber is combined with small blobs of transparent yellow, making the contrast very appealing, when polished.
just a thought
Dale
