I don't think the bW pictures are useless.  The pictures of carvings  
clearly show the carving in detail.  The historical pictures were bw  
originally.  The line drawings were always bw.  I compared the insect  
pictures with the original and the insects are black with the amber  
yellow.  Now you see them in black with white or shades of gray  
around them.  The Russian amber artists who restored the amber room  
did not think their black and white pictures were useless.  They  
compared the shades of gray and reconstructed the room just like the  
original using black and white pictures.  The picture of me in the  
amber room all has the same tone of grey because I was wearing red  
and the yellow, orange of the room and the red transfered to the same  
tones when changing the photos from color to black and white.  This  
is corrected on the disc  where you will see the original.
