Uh-oh, time for another pissing contest. We haven't had one of those in awhile :)

Saying Burmite is the best is just advertising/marketing. Obviously, who is to judge?

Dr. Grimaldi says Chiapan is the best, since it is generally the clearest and most varied in colors. Since I sell only that, I have to agree, after all, the guy has a Ph.D :)

  How's this?

Baltic is the best because you can get a lot of it easily, due to its large yearly production totals.

Mexican is the best for its real green and red colors, and its clarity.

Dominican is the best because it is the most fossiliferous, and for its blue color.

New Jersey is the best because it comes from New Jersey--fuhgettaboutit!

Burmese is the best because of all the new organisms being found in it.

Lebanese is the best because its study might help achieve peace in the Middle East.

Canadian is the best because the Canadians never get into trouble.

And Borneo/Indonesian is the best because it is found in such huge pieces.

I notice on a certain website that Burmite is said to be the finest jewelry-quality amber
    this just simply isn't true
their is very little amber that I have not worked and they all have their strengths and weaknesses depending on the project
I find this statement to be the equivalent to stating that oil pant makes better art than water color when its down to the artist
and the effect you are trying to achieve
hear are some photos of some old inferior amber pieces I made I would like to see this effect achieved in burmite
