Look for a crown or a tiara on the Queen...just kidding! From what I know,
queen winged ants are much larger than the male winged ants. They require
much more fat stores for egg production and to tide them over till the new
colony hatches and are big enough to serve her needs. According to one
documentary I watched, the winged males are just flying sperm banks and die
soon after mating with the queen. What a way to go!
