Amber Listserv / what is this?

Actually, Maggie, I have some 'African' amber myself. It is made from the Cowrie tree and the Africans have been making beads out of it for time immemorial. The beads are usually squarish and chunky looking.

It is very dense looking and a bit heavier than the more traditional ambers.

  Dear knowledgeable friends,
Would someone look at this link and tell me what they think has been done? I think "African amber" is something like "Alaskan oranges" but I'm wondering if anyone knows the process that's been done here. Baltic that has been melted and molded into marbles, perhaps? Best to all, Maggie
