Just another thought on the South African Amber, could the seller mean Southern Africa? If so then it may be Madagascar Copal! I've heard of it being referred to as African Amber.

Hi Folks,
Could this be pressed amber? It has the swirls often seen in Baltic pressed amber. This could be a mixture of bony/butterscotch amber and honey/cognac coloured amber chips. Would pass all the normal tests. As a jewellery item probably just as valid as any other other made from treated amber, as is the case for most commercial amber jewellery.
Cheers
Dave

Dear knowledgeable friends,
Would someone look at this link and tell me what they think has been done? I think "African amber" is something like "Alaskan oranges" but I'm wondering if anyone knows the process that's been done here. Baltic that has been melted and molded into marbles, perhaps? Best to all, Maggie
