Hi Everyone,
The inclusion forwarded by The Edgar's appears to be a wingless female dipteran, perhaps something near Phoridae. I'm really not sure about the family as I'm sure that there are other families of dipterans with wingless females.
The first temptation on ID is flea, but there is no comb present on the back of the head, the legs seem awfully thin and lack the characteristic spines. There appears to be no features in the image that relate to maxillary and labial palps. If a close-up shot of the head is possible, that would help further in the indentification.
Does anyone know or have contact information for the Gerardo Carbot of the Chiapas Natural History and Ecology Institute? I searched on Google on both his name and the Institute and can't find anything on either.
Thanks,
Scott Anderson
