Actually, I think the Ross book is good as a primer - but he's a bug guy.  If 
you're really into bugs, go for it, but Patty Rice's "Amber: Golden Gem of  
the Ages" is the most definitive work on amber I know of - in spite of the 
black  and white pictures. But she has a very good CD available with color 
pictures to  go with it. Good luck.  Maggie
