Thanks Tom and Tammi. I'm intrigued by Tammi's snowman idea. NO snow here at all on Borneo (unless you count the frost inside the freezer). Lets see...cognac amber for the top hat, blackish deep-reds for the eyes, mouth and buttons, and of course a single piece of white amber for the head/arms/body. I feel like trying to make one! Lets see if I have the time/energy.
I've no idea how much an amber chess set would cost, Tammi IF I could make it..a very big IF. But who knows eh? 5 years ago I was rubbing away at resinites with old fluffy socks...who knows what the next 5 years will bring?

Oh, agreed! Very nice indeed. I think it would be cute to fashion a little white amber snowman from the nougat stuff. Not that you see much snow in Borneo (well, maybe in the mountains?), but it would be interesting. I really like the smaller beads, too. Amber chess pieces, how awesome. If I could afford your prices, I would get something like that for my son. What in the world do you charge for something that intricate?

      Hi guys,

The monsoon season seems to have arrived early in Borneo. Have been hit by howling winds and torrential sheets of rain for the past 2 hours. As the sky was pouring down on me, I finished polishing these pieces (3 rosary heads, capsule beads etc). The lathing is still not 'crisp' enough, but it will be improved, and custom rubber sanding blocks (more like V and U-shaped blocks) will have to be used for precision-finishing the concave parts. Given a few more months and the likelihood of producing carved chess sets en masse will be a reality! :-)

      Andy
