Amber Listserv / Lathed white Borneo Amber

NONONONO Tom. New socks are anathema to polishing amber! They have to be
seasoned properly before use, the same way a lapidarist breaks in a new flat
lap or cutting disc. Lacking the right amount of soft fluff will ruin a
polishing job.
A little-known fact on polishing amber with socks is that the aura of the
former wearer of the polishing media is also imparted onto the piece of
amber. Trust me...sock selection and preparation are very technical.
The very nature of said polishing media also allows the lapidarist relief
from the monotony of buffing, by engaging in impromptu sock-puppet
theatrical productions. We're all friends here, that's why I'm sharing these
trade secrets! :-p
