This year at Ambermart three companies offered amber and diamonds jewellery. They were Dejwis- Amber Diamonds Collection ( their most expensive piece sold on first day of show to a Polish customer). S&A Amber Jewellery; the Diamond Collection (10 fully commercial and manufacturable jewellery sets) and New Amber Collection- faceted amber with diamonds (Amber set in gold with diamonds).

"Such combination has already appeared several times in the history of contemporary jewellery. Amber has been coupled with diamonds by such designers as: Michael Zobel, Wilhelm Tasso Mattar, Jaroslaw Westermark and Jacek Baron. The combination intrigues and inspires; it is, as Zobel says, a combination of opposites. Perhaps it even takes our thoughts back into the faraway and misterious depths of history. Arche? this is the title given to his piece by Tasso Mattar. A boat sculpted in amber carrying a cargo of diamonds. It is worth adding that this is one of? the only two pieces with amber on permanent exhibition at the Jewellery Museum in Pforzheim (Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim)."

Andy, you won't really know how it looks until you work up a prototype.? Just do one to see how they complement each other, or not.? The color of the apatite might kind of wash out in the white amber.? Perhaps something more earthy like a tiger eye?? Just a suggestion.? Do let us see what you create.

Hi guys,

Because I've as much color-coordination skills as Stevie Wonder and probably less fashion-sense than him, I'd like you opinions (particularly that of the ladies) on the possibility of inlaying cut gems into white/beige amber.

Pictured are a batch of oval neon-blue apatites and a cab of white/beige amber. I'm thinking of cutting little oval holes and inlaying those apatites into the cab. The table of the gems will be nearly flush with the surface of the cab. Of course, the number of gems will be moderate and won't overshadow the amber. The possibility of forming an initial with the gems is also being pondered.

DO let me know what you think. Will it fly or sink? Will it look good or will it stink? Suggestions on gem/amber coloration combos are also most welcome.

Andy
