Tom,

Indeed, mined Madagascar copal is a very special resin (originated from Hymenaea trees) with almost the same breaking index as glass. Very nice pictures can be made through this clear matrix. 
Olders pieces that are dug from deeper in the ground have a more amberyellow-golden color.

The presence of enhydro's, water/air moving bubbles, and the preservation of the colors of the inclusions makes it unique.
