Hi Hans,
thanks...the amber comes from cape york east coast aust.
I had a good look on the west coast this time and no amber at all!
I have found 4 kilo this trip of assorted material , carnt wait to look for inclusions.
Tasmania would have been  Interesting, and have heard it is a beautiful place.
The copal-like substance sounds familiar to me, not shore if Tassi has "grass trees" attaching a photo from cape york, but they are know to have a resin as you described, attaching photo, do you know if the resin is soluble in water?

    l have been collecting australian amber for the past month and have found some nice pieces, attaching a photo of a couple.
    also an interesting deposit of lignite that has been dated as miocene in age.as yet no assosiation ith the aust. amber.
