Hello Again Amber Group...
I thought some of you would find this interesting. I attended the 2008 rock, gem and mineral show in Tucson this year. It was a jaw dropping experience. I have never seen such an amazing variety of gems ever. There were over 550 stands!
Most of you are familiar with AmbarAzul (Blue Amber) from the Dominican Republic. I met Hermann and Alexander Dittrich. They had the most impresive blue amber pieces out of La Cumbre I have yet to see. No black light was needed to enhance the blue. It was unbelievable! They had the wasp / bee honey comb piece there. (I believe Yale commented on this some months ago.) The piece is about 50 grams with 6 distinct and large tubes. The tubes measured a huge 10 to 11 centimeters in diameter with wisps coming off of them (most likely small flow lines of air bubbles. Each cylinder had a second layer. This is definately a hive of some sorts, but the insect must have been enormous! Pictures are on their web site. It is the real deal.
I will return to this show. It was a one-of-a-kind experience and I would encourage all of you to do this also.
Pax, Chris Albrecht
