it could be Dominican. But it also could be Mexican. We both have the amber from the hymenaea protera tree (algarroba).

Try a UV lamp on it to see whether it is luminescent. If it looks like the amber you see at ?http://www.blueamber.info/blue_amber_physics.php?it might well be from here. All Dominican amber is luminescent.

I just cut a?slice?of amber that I've had for quite a few years. I bought it in two chunks as rough at a gem show.

My questions?are these. I never knew where it came from because the person I bought it from didn't, but this is definately a very clear red amber with extremely strong green tint. In fact the green is quite strong in weak light as well. ?

Because of the green tint, I'm expecting this is Dominican but I suppose it's possible that it could also be Chiapan. Would anyone be able to tell and would anyone have an idea of a per gram price for jewely cuts or for larger pieces of rough?
