Thank you for supporting the theory we have about the origin of the blue, Vincent. And for being a faithful customer....

Interesting, Adam. Because with the Dominican amber - I am referring to the blue kind, the one with a high density of those aromatic molecules - shows the extremely strong reflection in UV light even when it is of the clear kind. See the 97 % clear bead bracelet in natural light and under UV light.

I can make a test with the green, if it helps to clear the mystery.

The Mexican amber is what I know the most. The most intense glowing under UV (as well as the ones which show the most green and blue in sunlight) are usually the ones with more inclusions. The darker backgrounds of these pieces allow the colors to reflect more. The clear pieces show UV fluorescence expressed as a ghostly green color.

I believe the situation is the same for blue and green amber from the Domican Republic.

    You are right, Adam.

We have some Dominican that has little UV reflection. But all has some...even the yellow. Just checked it. But, most of the DR amber has suffered some heat, it seems. Maybe that's it...So when we have the greenish / reddish kind, it usually is fluorescent. (Believe me, I always have several kilos of Dominican amber of all colors available to run tests.)

Now, could it be that Baltic amber that has been artificially heat treated turns fluorescent, too? What other reason should the succinite have to behave like common retinite ? Maybe there is some Baltic amber that not originates from pine trees, like Poinar speculates. If it is the case, is it not succinite. Amber that lacks succinic acid is classified as retinite amber. Next thought: When you buy Baltic amber, how can you be sure that it is the succinite you wanted to have? Testing it with UV light?

This reminds me again of a Polish company asking me for large amounts of Colombian copal. (I won't tell who it was...) If they have been treating copal, selling it as Baltic amber, could it be that this is the one that turns fluorescent?

    Questions over questions....

We offer some information or theory at http://www.blueamber.info/blue_amber_physics.php but, of course we are not top of the field and it is not written on "paper" ;) There is an "Anthracene Hypothesis".

Hey, your input is welcome. We have not found answers to all questions yet.

    hey Adam

I might let it out if some one would be willing to right a paper on it
but it would have to be some one at the top of the field
like almost all discoveries it was just that million to one fluke that all conditions were right for it to be noted
