Yeah, I guess... good excuse anyhow...I will tell my boys.
Since I am German, but they grew up in the DR with American Homschooling in the Dominican (Spanish), they are all mixed up anyhow.
The story of our family you will find here: http://www.blueamberjewelry.com/aboutus.php

I'm sure the cabs wouldn't appear so blue without the black background in the picture..
In fact it would be interesting to see the photos on white background just for comparising.
Material with lots of fluorescence can stand a lot of exposure and Hermann has got the pick of what comes out of the mines, but generally speaking it is true, the smaller the window, the deeper the blue.
I myself like amber for its natural beauty. When it is cut, polished or worse, mounted in metal- it feels imprisoned;)))) Why, blue might be an exception here;))

Personally I have not seen blue Dominican amber under UV light, but even regular Dominican shines such a strong green- yellow fluorescence that for next Amberif there might be a permanent source of UV shining on the display.
This is the stuff to wear to a disco!

I recently bought a piece of blue amber just so I could have a representative sample in my collection. I deliberately chose a piece with most of the matrix still intact. I think that having the blue polished section backed-up by and surrounded by stone definitely enhances the blue color and provides a nice contrast to its beauty.

Oh, no, John, don't misunderstand me. Blue amber stays still beautiful after you cut is into cabs. It does not loose a bit. See pictures of some cabs we made ( in natural day light).

Shame I was not at Amberif. Should try next year. Wolfgang Weitschat and Kazimieras Mizgiris kept insisiting during their last visit here in the DR (see pic), but after Tucson and the shows in California we were shot. Wrong decision, I guess, and I envy you.

Ha ha ha! I knew it! I really thought you probably sold the stones...
Doug explained to the buyer the whole story about blue Dominican amber. He also mentioned that at retail level, one is looking at $10,000 worth of amber. Whatever that may mean;))) We had so much fun at Amberif!

Well, I just was wondering, because I sold it to a customer who took it to Poland. I recognize the stones.

It is true that the color depends much on the reflection since it is no solid color, but florescence. see www.blueamber.info . Even stones that look realy blue-blue are not as blue when they are polished. But: Take them to a dance club and see what long wave UV does to them. Hihi...

                    Hi Hermann.
                    No, I do not know.
The jeweller that had them on a table has just bought the whole lot from someone. He would not say how much he paid. He also had no idea what blue amber is and that it will not be as blue if he polishes or cuts it into smaller pieces.

By the way, John, do you know how much they were charging for the "blue amber eggs" at the Amberif, considering that Tammy thinks she has to win in the lottery ?
